Daft Airline Charges

I use the FLIGHTCHECKER and also SKYSCANNER sites extensively. Apart from the odd glitch, they're pretty good. But sometimes you find what looks like a crazy bargain, but the other charges on top are totally out of proportion...

Eg, JET2.com. Manchester to Amsterdam: out on May 31 for £9, back on 4 June for £4 . So total price before add on charges £13, total price all in just a few pennies short of £60!!!!

We all know the charges exist, but figures like this look mental! Maybe some of the charges are fixed by the airport, so worse at big outfits like Manchester. Anyone know?

cheers

Alot of its tax then there is fees for airport use to pay ground staff etc.

Usually when you buy a flight you get told what the charges are.

The doubling of APD by Gordon Brown earlier this year helped to bump up the amount of tax payable on flights.

Most of the tax we all pay on a flight goes to the government if you travel but if you don't travel then a lot of the budget airlines pocket is as they refuse to refund it or they charge you a stupid amount as an admin fee to process the refund that it's not worth it!

Landing fees etc do vary from airport to airport some do really low prices to attract airlines then bump them up! It all has an effect on the charges added to the basic fare by the budget airlines.

I do have to say though that £60 for a return flight to Amsterdam is pretty good

Most of the extras are things that go into the pocket of the airline not Gordon (or his successor)

On that trip to Amsterdam it's £10 - and it only applies to flights FROM UK airports

So the other £50 is going to the airline
