Black Screen

DH had a fiddle, took back off and took out RAM (to see if we could try the RAM from another laptop in it). Put it back (other RAM was different) and fiddled for a bit more. It then powered up and was all ok.
Until I closed it and tried to use it again and now it's the same blank screen again as before.
Does this rule anything out or make something more obvious to any of you good people?0 -
loose connection or a dry joint on a board somewhere? one of those fiddly ones by the sounds of it. if you can power it up and get it to boot. i'd suggest getting your stuff off whilst you can. At least then you'll have a backup. The information is the only unique (NOT Operating System etc) Just the stuff you create and use.
hope this helps0 -
If you're trying to make it hibernate rather than shutting it down properly, then the hiberfil.sys file is probably corrupted. Never been a fan of hibernate, always do a proper shut-down. Next time you get it booted up, change your power options to never sleep/hibernate
edit: and get into the habit of not "just closing it" and shutting down properly, every time

Two thoughts
Has someone inadvertently changed the settings to display on an external monitor.
On my ageing laptop you have to press a key combination to enable HDMI output, it does not automatically detect an HDMI connection0 -
If its hardware problem there would possible beep sound And number of beep sound indicates problem. So if you can tell further details, it would easier to help.0

It's only me that used it and unless I could have done it without realising it then its not that.PruHarrison wrote: »If its hardware problem there would possible beep sound And number of beep sound indicates problem. So if you can tell further details, it would easier to help.
There is no beeping only the sound of what I believe to be the DVD drive clunking as is usual on start up.0 -

Same as mine, the BIOS does not load up hence there is no beep on start up (there is no start up) & you get blackscreen because there is no video output.0 -
Right I have found something else to try. Probably kill or cure.
I have watched some videos on you tube and it seems I can download a BIOS from Acer. The only problem I can see is I am not sure what I rename the file as the Acer's they are repairing aren't the same model as mine.
Would I give it the name they do or would it be different and where would I find out what to rename it?0 -
Hi
I've got the exact same problem on my Acer aspire 5552. Screen freezes and then goes black. When turned off and back on it works for 5 mins in safe mode then freezes again and the screen goes black.
Did you manage to sort it op?0
