Benefits and civil partnership

Hi everyone

My partner and I are planning our civil partnership next year. :D :j My partner gets benefits and I don't...will she end up losing all or some of hers?

Thanks for your help.

Presumably you will be treated as any other couple and any means-tested benefits will be judged on total household income/savings.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

It depends on which benefits she receives.

Do you currently live together? If you do and the DWP know this then nothing will change, if you currently live apart then after the civil partnership things may need to be adjusted.

If you go to http://www.entitledto.com/ and enter all you and your partners details it will give you a good idea of how you will stand.

Congratulations by the way, my sister and SIL had their civil partnership last year and have recently had a ds together, I hope you and your partner will be as happy as they are :)

If you and your partner share a home now then you should be declaring as living as a couple now, isame rules apply to all couples now regardless of gender.

Congratulations, hope the celebration goes well.
One day I might be more organised...........

Thank you so much for your replies and good wishes.

And thanks for the web site info looby, it's helped a lot. We don't live together at the moment so things are going to change considerably once we're hitched.

Just need to go work out the sums now...:D
