RTI; How's it going?

  • I get my accountant to deal with it. Fairly reasonable price if anyone needs help... http://gordonferguson.co.uk/

The partner I deal with there reckons it's been blowing out of proportion and that the payroll providers (Sage/Iris etc) just built it up so everyone bought new software and went on training courses.

The biggest problem will be the number of companies who HMRC put into liquidation as for the first time HMRC know a company's true PAYE debts, especially after the P35 is submitted!

I think I read you can't file an EPS yet anyway. I think it said for a payment made in the period 6th April - 5th May 2013, then an EPS would not be expected before 6th May or after 19th May.

We ended up using 12pay which annoyingly produced a zero EPS, and kept reminding us it wasn't yet filed everytime we opened the programme.
And as you rightly say HMRC refuse these.
I ended up deleting it, but then wasn't sure as it was probably zero as it was too early, ... or perhaps zero as we had no recoverables anyway?

There are already one or two threads about RTI on the Cutting Tax board - would it be worth me moving this one over there too?

RTI isn't really about cutting tax though? I was asking small businesses how things were going. But if you feel it is best placed there please go ahead.

Oh I know, it's one of those areas which spans both boards in many ways, just worth pointing out that we do have a fair few threads over there about it ...

Agree there should be a thread here. 1st place to look for SME's surely?

Anyone using Sage payroll? What advice did they give you about FPS returns and weekly paid in arreas employees? They have changed it now.

6th come & gone & still our year end return figures aren't showing online today on our PAYE account. however, the at a glance page has updated (rather worryingly!) & now states

"HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is currently unable to display your account information.

You may be able to view a history of your account by following the 'View account' link in the left hand menu.

If you cannot view your account information this may be because:

you have not yet submitted your first Full Payment Submission (FPS) to report your PAYE report in real time
the PAYE Employers Reference that you have entered is no longer active and there is no information to view
you have only just activated the service and there is a short delay before the information is available to view"

no, no & no to those scenario's. do HMRC have so little to do that they create this confusion so we HAVE to call them up to query stuff!

We were using HMRC Basic PAYE Tools but I've never liked the clunky feel of it so went on the HMRC website to see if there was another free payroll programme we could use. We only have two employees so I decided to try BrightPay. It's really easy to set up, prints/emails payslips, does the submissions with one click of the button and keeps all the confirmations for you. I wish I'd used it from the start. Up to now I've done weekly submissions with no problem... fingers crossed it's all registered OK at HMRC's end!
