I'm a bit annoyed that I was using Sage 50 Payroll and it insisted on sending an EAS before it would submit the FPS. As there was less than 250 employees an EAS wasn't actually needed but Sage insisted on sending it.

I was so worried about all this RTI that I seriously considered farming out my Payroll to my Accountant, who charges approx £420 a year to do payroll for my Company.

In the end though, I processed Year end using Sage software and then thought "Oh, I'll give it a go!!" and installed 2014 software, including RTI update.

I pay weekly, so have made two FPS submissions and it couldn't be easier! Just an extra button at the end of the week, providing you've input all your staff details correctly.

I'm chuffed that I gave it a go and would encourage everyone to at least try....

year end completed & submitted after a bit of confusion (all on another thread), need to check PAYE online on Monday to ensure that figures have gone through ok after the next update (due 20th), just showing a credit value for the tax & NI we've paid at the moment.

2 weekly wages returns submitted ok with no problems. think i'll be happier when i've got a month end out of the way so i really know what i'm doing (we can but hope!).

We're probably going to fall foul of the RTI for week1. We pay our engineers a week in arreas so Friday 12th was actually week 53 for us and week 1 is paid today. So our FPS has a processed date of the 12th but paid on the 19th.

Sage is aware but I don't like their work around as it involves advancing pay at 0.00 for a week to bring our process date inline with the pay date giving us a 51 week tax year!

How many employees is that for if you don't mind me asking?
Just curious to see how much it compares to what I charge for payroll.

you weren't asking me I know, but this is what our accountant charges,

I'm cheaper for the weekly ones and for most of the monthly ones.

The way I work out my prices is I start with a basic charge and then have various discounts.

There is an annual fee of £50 at the start of the year.

Then there is the charge for each payroll run.
    For weekly it is £1.50 per employee and £2.50 per monthly employee. For 5 employees there is a 5% discount, 10 employees 7.5% discount, 15 - 10%, 20 - 12.5%, 25 - 15%.

I then have a 10% discount if it is paid by standing order.

So 25 weekly employees paid by standing order would work out at £1541.75. Under that other one it would £2600 or £3900 if variable.

The odd thing about the prices on that other thread is it is cheaper to have 10 employees than it is to have 7, 8 or 9.

I have found it very interesting how much the burden was put on employers. This is correct but most software providers have had to deal with the real problem of submissions. In reality it has turned into a process of submitting one file per payroll .

I'd be interested to see how HMRC are dealing with the data flooding in!

Just to throw it in there. We offer payroll services also!
