Travel insurance whilst abroad.

Hi, new here so I hope I've posted this in the right place.

I am a British national, and have been in the Philippines for 18 months. My original insurance policy was for 1 year, and I extended it until now. I now find out, as it is about to expire, that my insurance company will not extend it further, nor will they let me take out a new policy.

It appears to be quite difficult to take out a new travel insurance policy while I am abroad.

I would like to ask if anyone can recommend a good company and fairly cheap policy which will let me register from outside the country.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds more like you're living abroad than travelling abroad, so it's not surprising that you can't get travel insurance. If you have been in the Phillipines for 18 months, presumably you are now resident? Are you working? How are you funding yourself? When are you planning on going home?

most travel insurance won't cover you if you are living abroad - I think it is usually for just trips away from te UK for a limited amount of time

Note that some of the insurance cover will not apply to you (you won't benefit from cancellation insurance for instance, although you still pay for it).

If you are legally staying there then you could get insurance from a local firm covering medical and possessions. Just be sure that the cover is appropriate for you.

As a matter of interest, how did you manage to stay so long? I thought that the maximum you could extend a tourist visa was up to a year.
