Of course they turned down my requested because there was "no flexibility in the staffing structure" (they never said they disagreed with my request based on what I do) but I decided not to make a fuss about it as I didn't want to put undue pressure on myself and carried on working as normal. If, however, they do give me the boot then I'll be working to my exact job spec and no more (which really doesn't involve me doing much).

what type of reference do you want?

Knackered is the other person doing the job that you do 85% of the opposite sex to you? If so I'd consider making a claim for equal pay.

    There's nobody else doing it.

    Eh?
if none of the jobs include the things you do then ask why? don't they want them doing any more or have they just forgotton thye get done.

There's no new jobs and if they let me go there'll be a skills shortage... I don't think they'll consider such things though, there are a lot of politics going on.

You need to understand the key players and make sure the things that won't get done if they pick you are well known to the ones that will eventual have the say

You could prioritize your workload so important things only you can do get delayed enough for key people to notice. One way is to do stuff but sit on it just long enough.

well if you do get made redundant and you start a work to rule in your redundancy period you're not going to get a good reference from them.....

maybe it's best to do as good a job as possible until the last minute

No one can give you a bad reference, it is against the law. You can however refuse to give a reference which implies you did an unsatisfacory job or caused trouble. To be honest though, they are making you redundant! they want you to go so why would they do that. They will give a good reference and be glad to be shut of you more than likely.

It is entirely lawful to give a bad reference, although it has to be factual, otherwise it could be actionable. Most employers will just stick to key facts about the employment, especially larger businesses and public organisations.

You can't really get a bad reference for doing your job and nothing more though, can you? Why would I do things for free for them if they're dumping me? They'll have to get used to those things not getting done anyway!

And get the chop I truly did. I don't believe for a second that my job was evaluated on my skills list and I'll get contacting my union. What a bunch of mooks.
