Advice Needed re car insurance.

Hi

Hope some one can give me some advice.

I changed my bank account recently and the new bank swapped over all my direct debits, the only one that didn't change over was my car insurance. (I should have checked ).

Had a letter from my broker (Swinton) to say as I had cancelled my direct debit i had defaulted on my insurance, they asked for the payment and £15.00 fees which I payed in the form of a cheque, which went from my account on the 10 May.

Today I have had a letter to say they are cancelling my policy and now cannot be stopped. Will have to pay cancellation charge, and fees to my inurer.

I telephoned Swinton, the man I spoke to was most unhelpful and said he would ring back by the close of business today but didn't.

Any advice please? (I hope this makes sense).

Thanks.

BWCx

I am not sure exactly where you stand on this, ultimately the responsibility does lie with you although you may be able to get some redress from the bank who was responsible. your story is all too familiar which is why i would never touch a switching service with a bargepole.

What is more worrying is the implications of having insurance cancelled on getting future insurance. Most insurance companies ask the question "have you ever had insurance cancelled or had special terms imposed?". If you are unable to sort this out you will now have to answer yes, and this may lead to higher quotes and/or refusals to quote.
