Clio Bonnet Recall - Incident happened
Comments

I've looked at the cost of repair. £100 windscreen, £45 bonnet. Issue is if the frame is bent windscreen cannot be fitted and it will be a bodyshop job which is where it gets expenseive.
Interestingly though. The local renault explained that recalls have an expirery date. As the first issue was 07/08 they normally last 6 months. After that the recal issue isn't checked as a standard procedure.
So, we I got it in 2010 even if it had been back to renault 100 times, they wouldn't have checked the recall. I find this helpful, as if they are going to preech to me about not maintaining my vehicle, I will simply say this was rather rich coming from a company that knows fully about th default, but would have totally ignored this because it wasn't within 6 months of find out.
ummmm
He paid 4k for the car and had it less than 3 years. He has spent an awful lot on maintanence as well (over 1k in the last year alone). TBH considering last night, I want it fixed then sold. What I don't want is him getting £500 scrap for the car and having to take out a loan/borrow etc to then get a new one (he's not rolling in it and we are saving for a house deposit).I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
Renault are accepting no liability for this at all. In their words
There isn't a fault
It's all the owners fault for not maintaining the catch
The letters sent are purley because of press iterest
No court of law has found them liable
and finally
THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
Having driven cars for almost 30 years, I have never had to 'maintain' the bonnet catch on any car to ensure that the bonnet doesn't fly open whilst driving...."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I had a 2003 clio from new until I sold it in late 2011.
Good little car and I can remember receiving the letter about the bonnet catch recall. I had my car regularly serviced by the dealer and it was part of the 2008 service that the bonnet catch was fixed for free as "goodwill".
To be honest, I don't know why the previous owners would have ignored it as there was so much in the press about incidents on the motorway, as the previous poster mentioned.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840 -
I rang VOSA to check what they were saying was right, and pointed out like the previous poster implies, if this is nothing to do with a faulty part, why doesn't everyone who drives a car getting a letter if it's possible to happen to all cars. Is it coincidence it only happens to one brand and a small variety or vehicles.
But, not in a situation to take on a massive car organisation to admit fault.
Pretty annoyed that this morning he appeared to go away (and asked what I wanted to happen as a result of our conversation) as it appears the answer is, and always will be, nothing to do with us. Why didn't he say that rather than bulls**t for 45 minutes and go away to 'look into it' as they were clearly never going to do anything, goodwill or not.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
I got a letter about a month ago. It was clear on recommending the catch be checked. Doesn't apply to me because I have bonnet pins but before they were fitted I checked the catch regularly to make sure it engaged properly.0

If they notified the previous owner and they ignored it have Renault done all they need to do?
they wont know it changed owners.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
99 Clio Owner.
I knew about the issues so slathered my bonnet catch in grease and had always checked it. 2009 got the recall notice.
Took the car to main dealer. Out comes the mechanic with a rag, wipes off all my lovely grease, pokes about at the catch and says 'yes fine'. Had to go home and regrease everything!!
Oddly though despite having the book stamped for the recall I had another letter about 2 months ago via special delivery for this, I ignored it.
My son had one about 2 weeks ago for his 07 plate Clio Campus as well but like mine we put bonnet catch on the weekly maintenance schedule of the car (Oil, Water, GREASE!!) lol.0 -

Please see my thread above. I am so sorry this has happened to you too. Following my thread I gave up persevering with this. It drained the life out of me because I was just not getting anywhere. We ended up replacing the windscreen ourselves and getting a cheaper replacement bonnet from a scrap yard. We drove around in a red clio with a black bonnet for years.
Finally able to buy a new car last year and was lucky to part ex it for £500.
It upsets me so much. I had literally just finished paying the car off (£8000) and could only part ex it for £500.
Please let me know how you get on. If ever I hear of a successful story (which I havent to date) I will resume my complaint. Even if it is 20 years down the line.
To hear they are still recalling cars for the same issue 4 years after my thread is shocking,99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -

Same as you I'm afraid. Replaced the windscreen and bonnet at my own cost (£200).
I don't have the power/money/legal knowledge to take the company on. I however find that VOSA at great fault as they have basically given renault the all clear and for the life In me I don't see why.
However, I feel big boy politics is at play.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0
