Hmm, you sure it's not the ornamental lanterns thingy?

Hmmm, they just well may be. It's Physalis Franchetii and, on closer inspection of the package, it says "Caution. Do not eat ornamental plants". Yet, on checking the internet I found a site which says that it is edible. Now I'm really confused:confused:
What does your pack say Kay?

Whoops. The pack has been torn up, watered and stuffed into the compost bin. I must stop doing that!

My RHS big book of plants says Physalis peruviana is the cape gooseberry but doesn't mention P. franchettii at all so none the wiser

-just looked at wikipedia and loads of species listed there, but not franchettii!

    Just found this site

Apparently the berry is edible, but not something that you would really want to eat and the rest of the plant is poisonous
So, ornamental only then (if it comes) :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I bought some of these fruits today in Tesco.

There are loads of seeds in each fruit so I have taken some out to dry and will have a go at planting them and put them in the greenhouse.

Will let you know how I get on.

They may be good for you but they are an aquired taste.

I love them sb, sort of tart and sweet at the same time :)
I think I may try your route too, then I know they'll be edible

I'm gonna grow some fruit, from a little seed
I'm gonna grow some fruit, hope that I succeed
I'm gonna grow some fruit, I'm gonna grow it high
I don't know how I'm gonna do it, only know I'm gonna try.
