CPA's and bank accounts

hello,

I sent my bank (co-op) a letter in february asking them to stop any CPA's on my account.

Last week one was taken, I had to call up and raise a dispute for the money to be credited within 3 working days...

Is this the correct process or on receipt of the letter should they automatically stop any payments from going out?

I've also posted this in the loans board as i wasn't sure which was more appropriate

Did you send your letter recorded delivery? Are you sure they have received it? Did you send it to the correct department?

If they haven't received your letter and you have had no confirmation that they have received it, and acted on it then I guess they will just carry on paying the CPA's.

Also I don't think banks will stop just all CPA's, I think they can only stop ones that you specify to be cancelled and stopped, Am sure someone may come along and correct me on this one.

Who are the CPA's for? Would it not be easier to contact those organisations you have CPA's with and cancel them that way?

I don't think it matters if it goes to the correct department or even the correct office; surely as long as it is received by the correct company it's their responsibility to pass it onto whoever it needs to go to.

I agree it needs to be sent recorded though.

You would think that however as we all know banks don't work on logic!!

Plus I also don't think they can put a blanket ban on all CPA's charged to a card only ones that are specified by the account holder.

You should first of all contact the companies who debit your account with CPA's, then send a letter to your card issuer to let them know that you don't authorise any more transactions from these companies. (Specify which ones)

You can ask your card issuer to cancel them, but it works much better if the company is actually aware that you wish to cancel your agreement. Common sense really.
