Getting a hard drive out of a laptop

My GF old laptop has died and its got some of her coursework on it.
If i can get the harddrive out a friend has lent me a little USB gadget that will connect to my computer and the old harddrive so i can hopefully get out all the files.
I've taken all the screws out of the unit but it still refuses to come apart i can see the HDD but can't quite get the thing open and don't want to break it in two.
Is there something that i've missed, i've removed the battery but not the cd-rom drive btw

Hi,
Usually once you have the little lip part of the laptop casing off it should be plain sailing, but they can be a bit stiff.
Faint possibility of a final screw holding the drive in, this would prolly be central along the width of the opening.
In almost all cases there will be a smallish (usually white/semi trans) tab on the drive, normally folded underneath it on the exposed edge.
If you can flick this out so that you can grip it you should be able to extract the drive with a little steady tug.
If you're having to force it then something is still screwed together that shouldn't be.
The pins on the HD are tiny and very fragile so be careful
As the previous post said, if you can say what the machine is I might be able to dig up specifcs for you...
