Ask letting agent for copy of inventory - still not got it!

Hi all,

was on her the other day re an email I got from my letting agents regarding how we show our property.. anyway, also in this email was a veiled threat about our deposit.

I have asked for a copy of our inventory three times now and still not got it... do they have to provide it?

I am pretty sure that they dont have a signed copy from me.. could this be why they are not forthcoming with it?

Basically, we moved in checked the inventory, made loads of changes, sent it back to them, they sent it back to us with the changes to sign and i dont think i ever did.....

can they refuse to give us a copy? xx

If you didn't send it back then surely you still have the copy... I'm confused as to what the problem is here?

so the problem is that the inventory has been lost ? (by you?)

they sent it back to us with the changes to sign and i dont think i ever did.....

    Think hard!

if you didn't sign it then I guess that gives you the upper hand...

what i am asking is - if they have a copy on file, do they have to a) let me have a copy of it if i request it or b) need to say they dont actually have a copy at all....

I doubt you can force them to show you it.

Have you been to visit their office? it is hard to ignore someone's request when they are stood right in front of you....

yes, ofcourse they would need to let you have a copy of it!
without it, they can't do a checkout and claim for anything, and if you don't have a copy, yet they do, you can't match it up to what they have...but if its you haven't returned it, then that was a bit naughty, but they should have a copy typed up on file with the changes...

No, they do not have to provide you a copy.

If you had sent back the signed copy (which anyway you think you did not), you should have kept a copy. No requirement on them to re-send you one.

Of course, if it ever comes to a dispute over something in the inventory (eg deduction from deposit for a missing item), then either you, or the deposit scheme arbitrators, would insist on seeing the signed inventory before agreeing to the deduction.
