Hi there,
I just got one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-HD-Multi-Media-Player-Full-HDMI-1080p-3-Outputs-HDMI-VGA-AV-2-inputs-SD-USB-/230945579014?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item35c56de006
How do I connect my headphones (standard 3.5 jack)? I was hoping to watch some movies I stored on a few SD cards so I hooked a large computer monitor through the VGA output but (obviously) I get no sound.
The monitor has no speakers and even if it did I doubt it would get the audio from the VGA cable but maybe I am wrong. If I simply plug the headphones in one of the two holes at the back (marked YPBPR and AV) the picture goes green and I can hear fuzzy noise.
I am sure I need some sort of adapter or converter, can anyone advise?
It seems strange they advertise "yes, you can plug in your computer screen via VGA" but where I get the audio from???

You need an additional converter.
Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-inches-Stereo-Splitter-3-5mm-Adapter/dp/B0009JFF7A/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_y
Plug that into the cable which has red white yellow and black plugs (RCA cable) (which came with the box) white to white, red to red, black into the box and your headphones into the converter0 -
If you were able to use HDMI into a TV (which I think is the way it's really intended to be used) then you would plug the headphones into it.0

Thank you for your input.
I didn't post a reply or a thank you as I was waiting for the RCA converter to be delivered. It took one week, UKtoUK was a bit slow but at the end.. hey, it worked!
The picture is now perfect the only downside is that the output volume in my headphones is very very low. I can hardly hear any conversation unless the scream, shout or shoot... volcanos erupting... etc.
I think this is because the sound from the media player is supposed to be amplified by the TV speakers, but I don't know... anyway.. SOLUTION: after adding a pair of active speakers and connecting the headphones through the 3.5 jack I was able to crank the volume up to an acceptable level.
Many thanks to RobTang for pointing me in the right direction.*_*_* Department of Redundancy Department *_*_*0
