Would you pay someone else to do your home search?

Talking today to a home finder, quite well known in the area, does relocations for people coming from abroad or moving area or just to busy to look for their own home.
Cost 1.75% of the sale price! Would you let someone else do your home search?

i probably would, however 1.75% of the sale price sounds like an awfully high amount of money!0

I'm finding it quite stressful, so if I was a lot better off I probably would, although 1.75% seems steep.0

Not a chance. Every time I've found somewhere I've lived it's been the polar opposite of what I thought I wanted. No one else can tell how you will feel about a property and might forehand your perfect house.0

With all the tools available for buyers you would have to be simple to use someone to hold your hand.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
1.75% of £100k is not very much considering that person might spend literally days if not weeks looking for the right place.
On the other hand, 1.75% of £500k is considerably different.
Let's be honest though, the sort of people attracted by this sort of service are probably going to be the ones who have the money to throw at it - young, rich, successful entrepreneur types.
A friend offers services to these types - she does everything from pick up their dry cleaning to buying flowers for their spouses, organising a new cleaner or getting the car serviced. I'm sure she would find them a nice pad if they paid her to do it.The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

That's a bit strong. It is also a sweeping generalisation with little basis in fact.
Professional developers routinely employ property searchers.
There can be all sorts of situations where help with a house search will save not only time and hassle but if done properly - it can also save the purchaser money in the long run, especially if the professional home searcher in question is a good negotiator.
1% is a more realistic fee.0 -
No, they'd be useless. When you buy a house there are all kinds of inflated expectations that you have - and subsequent compromises - and "it feels right".
I'd help somebody else find a house though ..... 1.75% is good.0 -

These kind of services are becoming increasingly more common. Done properly and efficiently they can save the employer not just time but also money.
If you are earning £1000 a day (not as uncommon as you might think) then it is cheaper to employ a good assistant to do your "running around" than it is to take time out of your schedule to do the routine stuff yourself.
Wives do it for free of course:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I can see the need for this as paet of a relocation package, or for those whose time is money. can't see the point for the average jo bloggs tho.Emergency savings: 4600
0% Credit card: 1965.000
