I used the twist and cut method all over youtube did my fringe and everything it looks ace and is soooo moneysaving.
Just cut tiny amounts off to start with

You could consider going to a decent hair acadamy for be a model for a level 3 student (level 3s are already qualified and have had a years salon experience, they are learning more technical techniques) then you get an expensive haircut either free or much cheaper than it would normally be, and you get to benefit from the expert advice of the trainers.
