Hi there
Really hope you will be able to help me as my compny's IT department is refusing to help me. I work from home so bought a new PC instead of using the old laptop they gave me.
I now have a problem running one of our web based programs and they will not help me so I hope you can.
I used to be able to run this program prior to March 2007 when I upgraded to the new version of Internet Explorer. Now it will not work and they have told me that is the reason.
I tried using Firefox but that is refusing to work this program too so I was wondering if there is anyway I could install an old version of IE and use the new one at the same time.
I know I am not explaining myself very clearly but I don't know how to check what version of IE I am using but it is the one with the arrows and stars at the top in XP.
Please can someone explain how I can download the old version and run it side by side with the new one.
Many thanks
Tina

Hi I did a quick Google and came up with this which seems to be a standalone version of Internet Explorer that can run alongside I.E.7
Check here:

I believe you need the last one, Hth. Alan.Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0 -
What webbased program are you trying to run.
To find out the version of internet explorer click on the ? or help on the browser and then on about internet explorer.
Assuming you are running XP:
You can go into add and remove programmes (from the control panel)and simply remove IE7, explorer will then revert to ie6.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks Guys I will have a look at doing that. I will have a look at the stand alone one first as I dont really want to go back and use 6 but at least now you have otld me how to do it. WIll report back when I have tried it.

Hi,
it might be a double click on a .exe file.0 -

Thanks for all your help, I got IE6 downloaded and it had the same problem as before except a little notice at the bottom told me to hold down ctrl as google had blocked the pop up. I did that and it worked a treat.
I then downloaded IE7 again and guess what it was ctrl that worked again. So much for my company and their IT department I am now just so happy
Thank you so much.Moved to Denmark for FIRE by Aug 2025 “May your decisions reflect your hopes not your fears”
