How long should an online transfer take.

Hello everyone,
I'm sure this has been covered before, however a quick search brought up no results.
I'm self employed and last week finished a bathroom fitting job. The customer in question now owes me £3670 and payment in cash on completion was agreed at the quoting stage.
On the second to last day of the job, the customer's partner called round, praised the work and told me how pleased they were to find someone reliable as they had previously had a bad experience. we discussed payment and for the sake of convenience and goodwill, I said I'd be happy with a bank transfer to save them going to the bank and drawing out such a large sum.
The job was completed and she was invoiced by email on Saturday. On Sunday she approved the invoice and asked me to remove some rubbish from the garden, which I did. She then emailed to say she would arrange payment.
It is now Wednesday and I have received nothing. I emailed her this morning to enquire and she replied almost instantly that the money had been (past tense) transferred today. As of now (5.23pm) there is still nothing.
Should I be worried? I don't really know anything of the different types of transfer or how they work. Should I be waiting this long? Is there any way of checking with the bank if a transfer has been made before funds are showing?
All replies are much apprecated

This depends on the banks and although the transfers are often instant, the deadline is the end of the next day.
Also, transfers to new payees usually take longer than to the old ones.0 -
