Cheapest flights to South Africa???

I have family in South Africa who we want to visit but the flights are so expensive (over £1000 for myself, OH and 2 year old DD!!!). Once we are there we will be staying with family so that isn't the expensive part but I just don't know how we can get together so much for the flights. Is there any way of getting there cheaper?

Hi there
Not sure where in SA you are flying to, or when, but we have recently been looking at flights to JHB. There doesnt seem to be any real bargains going direct at the moment. We keep an eye on travelsupermarket.co.uk.
Air France had some good indirect flights - problem with the cheaper ones is that it is a daytime flight instead of a over night flight.
Also try Air Namibia.
Quatar (I think thats the spelling) also has some good indirect flights. "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
We would be going to Port Elizabeth so would have to go via either JHB or Cape Town.0

Most pertinently when are you travelling? More specifics? Dates? From?
£1000 at face value to Port Elizabeth for 3 of you doesn't seem a bad price.0 -
I cannot add a great deal to what you have been told, but if you are flying later in the year have a look at flyglobespan flying out of manchester the start in Nov till march[?] about the same price as Quatar air but they fly direct to JHB or CPT , I think you will be hard pressed to better £1000 for the three of you, but you will have a great time whilst youre there.0

Not sure how valid this might currently be but we're off to SA over new year and are flying KLM which were the cheapest we could get for that time of year. For our in country flying, we've been put on to Kulula airlines and Nationwide airlines (Kalula being the cheapest for internal flying). It did seem to be that Nationwide do some international flights going from Gatwick - might be worth keeping your eye over their flight costs.
Hope you get fixed up and have a super trip0
