I have been a few times, and love it, then again I am a big kid.

It will certainly take a 3 - 4 hours for a wander around but not an all day place.

If you are going to see certain things (ie penguins) make sure the enclosure is open before booking your tickets.

If you are travelling to London by the there is a website.. Southern Rail I think (?) that offer 2 for 1 entry with your rail ticket, or it is worth looking on sites like lastminute.com for much much cheaper tickets.

Thanks:). Planning in travelling from Scotland and just trying to get an idea of getting about. Was thinking of using a taxi to get us between places. Are the taxis in London dearer? Am not even sure how long to book the hotel for. Fancy London Zoo, parliament, Buckingham palace , Natural history museum and some other place but slipped my mind!

It would be much cheaper to use public transport. A zone 1-2 daily off peak (purchase aft 9.30am weekdays and off peak all day weekends) travelcard for unlimited tube, london overground trains and buses will cost you £7.30 per day or you could get an oyster card. Here are the taxi fares for London.

For example: a single journey 4 mile journey from London Zoo to The Houses Of Parliament with a travel time of 20-30 mins depending on traffic would cost you £15-£22.

You really can't decide how long you want to go on holiday for?

You can purchase a daily London travelcard from any train or tube station or you can order in advance but will pay shipping of £2.75.

In regard to how many days you will need in London, I would group together things you want to do near each other and then work out a rough itinerary. You can go on the journey planner on www.tfl.gov.uk to work out journey times. There are three museums by South Kensington Tube station (Natural History, Science, Victoria and Albert) so that could take a day or more there. Nearby is Kensington Gardens with the Palace, Peter pan statue, Prince Albert memorial and you can walk through this into Hyde Park which has boating on the Serpentine in summer. If planning to see Buckingham Palace then I would plan to view this with the changing of the Guards times i.e. 11.15am onwards. If you wanted to tour the House of Parliament you can arrange this through an M.P., you have Big Ben, The London Eye, Westminster Abbey and boats that you can get to the Tower Of London all in this area (if you apply in advance you can get free tickets to the ceremony of the keys at the Tower Of London).

If going to London Zoo you can do a canal trip from Camden Lock and the market is good there on a Sunday.
