eBay selling stolen/lost goods beware

EBay have refused to refund my money when I found out the item had been reported stolen/ lost .I bought a kindle fire in January when I tried to register it with Amazon who told me it had been lost or stolen which means you cannot use it. I tried to report it to the police but they claimed it was internet fraud angle I had to contact action fraud. I did so supplying the name and address of the seller. I eventually received a crime ref number. I contacted eBay and they told me I had to get an incident report and the name of the police officer dealing with it. I explained that could not happen as the police did not deal with it I visited 3 different stations and was told the same each time. PayPal said it was. down to eBay I have spent 3 months sending countless emails getting nowhere.
so the man who sold stolen goods on eBay is free to sell you stolen goods I am £ 155 down and eBay are making million taking their cut I believe it is known as fencing stolen goods

Who has the item? How do Ebay know it is stolen, just from your word.
What did the police say about it? Is it a stolen item?
You should perhaps contact the Chief Constable of the police department who dealt with it and ask them if they can provide you with the relevant information.
Also contact Trading Standards for their advice and maybe help in getting a resolution.

I'm confused by the police position as this isn't internet fraud, it's a simple matter of someone selling you stolen goods. I would have thought internet fraud is quite different.

Raise a 'Sold Not As Described'. When ebay ask why, just tell them it cannot be connected to Amazon due to it being reported lost/stolen. If it can't be connected to Amazon, then it is not 'as described'.

It's way beyond the time that a dispute can be opened.
This can only be done up to 45 days from purchase, and the OP bought the Kindle back in January.

But in your post you admitted that the Kindle may not have been stolen, in which case the seller and ebay could both be totally innocent.

The seller may have aquired it totally legally, either at a lost property auction or by finding it and being given it when it wasn't claimed.
They could also have purchased it from one of the high street outlets that buy used electronic items from the public.
