What did you put in your invites?

All the questions we've had so far have been information included in the invites. I'm sure most people haven't actually read them.
We included venue details, timings (provisional), dress, children, entertainment, parking and catering. We've had questions on all of them
I guess it doesn't matter what I put then, i'll get questions anyway!!Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0 -

Yep - and this is exactly why we kept ours really simple! Didn't have a website either!
Everyone made it, found somewhere to stay if needed, and generally survived:rotfl:Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

Hehe, that's good to know!! Did anyone put the food in? I've seen this done before but I think it was only when the menu was a choice menu. Ours won't be a choice menu, but there will be a vegi option of a cheese and onion pie. Some people might prefer this over the meat dish, even if they are not vegi, so I was wondering if it might be a good idea to put this option on there, or am I just complicating things?!Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0 -

We put it in because we had a choice, but I wouldn't have done if we didn't - I'd have just said please let us know if you want the vegetarian option. Depends on your venue, for example how would they feel if suddenly half your guests chose the vegetarian option? Sounds extreme but is possible and not all places would allow this as it's like giving a choice.Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

That's a good point, i'd best check with them first! I think it would be eaiser not to include it given that there isn't really a choice.Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0 -
We got married in Blackpool on the day that Robbie Williams turned on the Illuminations...we suggested that everyone wishing to book hotels did so early as there could be a high demand (I knew why but it wasn't public knowledge when the invites went out
).
We also included a note asking for any food allergies / intolerances, saying "no gifts but if you insist John Lewis, Debenhams or Thomas Cook vouchers, and told everyone coming to the ceremony to make their way to that venue by public transport, as there was transport provided back to the hotel (we hired a vintage tram)

I hope to not sound too pessimistic but if I did it again I wouldn't bother with inserts in the invitations or a wedding website.
I spent ages doing a wedding website and most people didn't bother to look at it. We still had loads of questions and probably spoke to most people individually about plans etc. I think people like to have the individual conversation rather than just reading the info they are given!0 -

Thanks daisie, it's nice to get lot's of different perspectives. All we've done is put the address and telephone number in of the hotel, and mentioned rooms are available deposit free when you mention our wedding. Most people can use google to find how to get there, or use a map! Apart from that we haven't added any extras in, menu etc. Were going to sit on it for a bit and then submit to the printers!Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0 -
Rachie,
A few things for you to mull over. Are you considering providing any transport from wedding to reception venues - if so your guests need to know. It might be worth including the numbers of a few local taxi firms. You do have the option of inserting the locations of hotels etc onto google maps and saving the resulting page you can provide the web link to this map to your guests. Finally, it's worth asking about special dietry requirements (i.e gluten free, nut free etc) in addition to the veggie option.
I'd not bother with a web site. IMHO it's a bit naff.0
