Hi all,

I have been trailing through pages and pages of garages looking for somebody not too far away from me to carryout an engine swap on my Motorhome.

I live in Norfolk and through speaking to countless garages locally and further away I have hit a brick wall as knowbody mainstream wants a big job like an engine swap on a motorhome. It has been suggested by other mechanics that I seek to find the backstreet mechanic who loves getting involved in a job like this but to no avail I can't find that sort of person near me.

Does anybody out there know of anybody in Noroflk or the counties around Norfolk which would consider a job like this.
Any help or snippets of information as to who could do a job like this would be brill!!!!

Rich :)

Best off asking on motorhome forums, theres usually a subforum dedicated to every van, or have a look in motorcaravan motorhome monthly

Hi Jaydee, have asked on mortohome forums but I'd thought I'd do MSE just in case somebody on here knew of anybody.

Is changing a motorhome engine any different from any other sort of van?

When I had the engine changed in my car the chap drove down from up North to do it, so maybe ask around for mobile mechanics too.

Try one of the several caravan/motorhome magazines available in WHSmiths. If I recall correctly there are usually plenty of adverts from dealers, coachbuilders and workshops etc.

Who is sourcing the engine? Is a recon unit or getting yours rebuilt not viable?

The issues with engine swaps are that you source it, They fit it and it doesnt work. They did what you asked and swapped the engine. Not their fault its
crap. And they want their money now.

If you source another engine then the bill will be the same again thanks.

You could end up paying more than a brand new engine never mind a reconm unit.

    Hi forgot,

The engine I require would have to be around the same time my current engine was made, so sourcing a brand new engine wouldn't be possible.
The current engine isn't viable as it wouldn't make to much improvement to get it tuned.

I understand what you say with regards to sourcing the right engine hence finding a donor van to get the right engine + extra parts to get fitted is quite akward thats why I need somebody who has experience and knowledge who can guide me in the right direction in sourcing the right engine to which I then can make sure is in good condition before getting the mechanic to do the swap.

If I find the right person then it will be an advantage.
