Readymix cement advice

Options
We are looking to order around 5 cubic metres of cement for foundations of our new extension.

I understand that there is either a wheel barrowing or pumping of the cement. There is no access from the road to our extension and it must all go through the house.

Is it possible to get it pumped through or will it be wheelbarrows?

Can anyone recommend a service in Enfield or North London?

so you plan to shift 12 tonnes of concrete, at least 175 full wheel barrow loads through your house without it starting to set, I think not, get it pumped over the house even if they could get the pipe through you don't want that going through your house
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

I am sure you will have built into the pricing of your extension the price of a concrete pump.

I haven't looked at concrete pump prices for twenty years but back then it was often cheaper to get a crane & hopper rather than a pump on small jobs.

Things might well have changed but worth a check

If there is an easier way through a pump, that would be good. Its about 28 metres from the road on the level. Is it feasible?

So far we have shifted 120 barrows out in 2 hours.

Pumps are very expensive, you can try barrowing it through but you'll have a very messy house afterwards.

Ignore what southcoastrgi said. I've barrowed 3.5m3 of concrete with one other guy helping in 35 mins. Did another 4m3 for our slab with 4 of us, 2 barrowing and 2 levelling in 45 mins. You'll want 2 strong fit people, and make sure you have 2 strong barrows too. Flimsy barrows twist with the weight of the concrete, and that makes them really hard to push.

It'll be hard work, but doable in an hour. Try and dump it in the right places and then level afterwards.

Edit: Just read you're 28m from the road. We were only about 6m, so that's quite a difference!

what do you mean by this?

also the truck driver will not be expecting to be sat around for several hours while you unload the lorry a couple of barrows at a time.

Ignore what southcoastrgi said. I've barrowed 3.5m2 of concrete with one other guy helping in 35 mins. Did another 4m2 for our slab with 4 of us, 2 barrowing and 2 levelling in 45 mins. I won't tell you what i think you should do

you have moved m2 the OP is moving m3, if you think 2 men will move 6 tonnes of concrete each in an hr in two wheelbarrows then i think you need your head examed

Spot on. Will was rather rude I thought but as its be nice to newbies time then I'll say no more. The guy on the mixer isn't going to want to hang around either so there'll be no time to slope off for a fag or a cuppa. It will be sheer hard graft to even attempt to barrow it even with access round the side and it will need a few more than two barrows to keep the driver happy. I've seen 'em just dump it in the road if the shifters are too slow. There's no way this lot should be taken through the house.

    Cheers

Somewhere in the region of eighty barrow loads in an hour using only two barrows with one way working through the hall.. I don't think so TBH.
