Carpet Washer / Cleaner - Are They Worth It?

I did have one for a rented house but it didn't really do too much to the carpet as it was badly worn, almost no pile left! The dirty water thing is a bit of a myth as if you mixed what your hoover sucked up with water, you'd get nearly the same results. I would hoover before using any carpet cleaner.

Sorry, but I disagree. I always use my Dyson first and that takes up a lot of the grime first. I would guess it was the poor quality of the carpets you were using it on that made so little difference? My carpets are fairly deep pile, probably hang onto a lot of the dirt we tread in on our shoes and they definitely look brighter afterwards.

  • I got one for free - I wouldn`t have bought it . I would have found one that does upholstery too !

Just a a follow on here, been looking at Bissell carpet cleaners today with a view to purchase. However, I want to know which is best as in rotary brush or self agitating? The carpets are down about a year now and some rugs which see a lot of abuse so wondering which would be best. I know someone had mentioned the rotary bar might damage newer carpet is that right?
