l have just got cover for Travel insurance with holidaysafe and on the policy sent by e-mail l noticed it says if you want to claim for baggage lost , clothes, jewellery
or items stole you must have original receipts...
Is this right do all travel insurance want receipts.
How can this be right, who keeps receipts for clothes, jewellery, camera's etc that you may have had for years...

Receipts are the easiest method of establishing proof of ownership but are not the only way. Whilst the policy wording may state receipts are required I'd be highly surprised if that ever was enforced either by the insurer or the ombudsman in most circumstances0

Thanks for the reply...
l have no receipts for any items of clothes or other items they name so l just wondered where you stand IF you did ever need to claim for such things..0 -
You look for secondary evidence, photos of you wearing them, bank statements showing transactions in the store.
At the end of the day the level of proof required is dictated by the level of claim. You say your bag was full of Primark clothing that was all 1-4 years old then they'll not want too much. Say that it had 4 bespoke suites at $3,500 each, a weeks worth of Ralph Lauren underwear and socks at $60 a day, $1000 John Lobb shoes *2, your $30,000 IWC watch and all items were under 12 months old then the insurers will want more evidence0
