    I've got Java UNinstalled ... not come across anything critical that needs it so far. :)
  • i recieved this message last week when i was trying to pay a bill at Debenham it said i need to update immediatley, i did and it changed all my computer, i dont know much about computers and had to get my grandson to clear it seemly was a Trojan or something but it made my homepage to something completely different to my own

    From memory java updates now come with optional additional software (OK garbage).

    If you actually bother to read the messages instead of gaily clicking yes to everything you can avoid installing stuff you don't want. This goes for lots of installers these days - many want to install the Ask toolbar for instance which may be what the java install is carrying.

    I am another of those who has uninstalled Java. Never run into a situation where I couldn't do something because I don't have Java.

    From this statement I can guess that you don't use LibreOffice or Open Office!

    What are the functions which require Java? Most people won't notice a difference without java.
