How long did your tax credit claim take?

Hi,

Just sent off my tax credit claim application a week ago. I was wondering how long it took for them to process people's (first time) applications, from the time it was sent off to the time the money was received.

Thanks

    17 months, and counting...

They now owe us close to £7'000 in backdated payments. I've given up hope of every getting the bloody thing tbh.

    Hope you have more luck!lol

WTH! What is the hold up? Have they told you or is it simply due to a bureaucratic beastly computer system error?

Wow, I posted the application 2 weeks ago... just called today and was told the money will be in the bank on Friday!! There is truly no rhyme or reason to how they do things.

If you answered every question on the claim form, have no restrictions because you are from abroad, gave the right NI number, and are not claiming for any kids someone else has claimed for, you will probably get your first payment within 2 weeks of sending in your form. The longest delays are usually for people from abroad who haven't got an NI number, people who have mixed up their NI number with someone elses, and people claimimg for kids who are on someone elses award - all of these can take months.

If you write a complaint htings really speed up.

If you write to your MP, things go even quicker.

You can also ask for payments to be ade by cheque if your claim takes ages. But you will probably have to repay the money you got in cheques once your bank payments start, as you will end up getting to much money over the year.
