Anglian Windows Gold Account - Hitachi finance

We recently had windows installed by Anglian and opted to pay through their gold account to receive a hefty discount. The salesman told us the account needed to stay open with the minimum payment being made for 13 months even if we paid the rest off otherwise Anglian would be calling on us for the discount back.

Having looked through the small print, I can't find any references to penalties if we settle the account early. Has anyone else been told this and paid it off early anyway with no penalties from Anglian?

I would guess that it is more likely that the salesman will lose his commission for the finance deal if you cancel early - so has told you porkies to reduce the risk of that happening
  • Hi Sarajevo,

Just signed up for same deal and I also read the small print about early payment and despite what the salesman said, I can't see anything about it. Did you pay off early?
  • Hello guys

My mother went and bought from Anglian on that gold scheme. When I found out I went a bit ballastic. This is clearly a discount on an overpriced product in the first place as a bribe to get you to sign up to credit. Best avoided, however as you have already signed for it you have a problem. I read the small print from Anglian and Hitachi finance. You can pay it off early, phone them for a settlement payment. You need to wait until it has been set up though as if you cancel the agreement you will lose your discount. To pay it off early there is a fee (about £150? I think in my Mums case) but this is a lot cheaper than losing your discount applied for taking the credit.

The whole thing is a farce really.

    Hi Sarajevo and Snowman.
How did you get on with your Early Redemption. How much did it cost you?

I have just signed the same deal.

I squeeze the salesman to a cheap price (more than 60%!), but I wanted another £2k. He refused to discount any further unless via Finance. I hate finance but he assured me that if he put me on to their 'Accelerated Payments' scheme I can pay off early with just an early redemption charge equivalent to 2 months interest.

He did say that we must start the scheme or we will lose the £2k discount.
However he also said to keep the scheme open for 13 months! I looked at the small print and cant work out why! Maybe its because he will get his commission if we stay in for a year!!!

Be interested to hear what you folks did, did you stay for 13 months and what your charges were for paying off in Full.

    Thanks for any tips.
    Mark
  • Hi folks, it's now been a year since my finance agreement started and I have one more payment to make to keep to the '13 month rule'. I paid off as much as I possibly could, leaving the last payment with just a tenner to pay and over the 13 months have only paid around £80 interest in total.

I read the small print time and time again and still nothing is there in writing about keeping it open for 13 months but I just didn't have the guts to pay it off and risk some sort of legal battle from Anglian.

I did however ring the original salesman a few months into the agreement and questioned the '13 month rule'. I challenged that it wasn't in writing and that I hadn't signed anything to say I'd keep it open for 13 months and he totally flipped saying it was a verbal agreement! I think that says it all really but I still didn't fancy coming up against them in court!

Sounds like you're their ideal customer. How would you end up in court for paying something back early?!

We were told we could pay it off early in fact we were told to make sure we did to avoid high interest payments .

They offer you a lower price if you take the finance , we refused to buy as we had the cash , they soon came back with a better price lol

This is shocking. Don't you just love all the sales tactics, lets use words like GOLD account. unfair to be clear to the customer on clear terms and conditions
  • Hi All

    Anglian Gold account.....how it works

They offer 10% off list price to take it but in reality its about 3%
You can pay off at anytime
It is illegal for them to say you must pay for 12-13 months
They will not come back and ask for the difference in money as the finance contract is with the bank....NOT Anglian
Look on the finance contract and it will state a 'cash price'
    All governed by the FCA
BEST tip....pay most of the balance off in one go and then one month later pay the rest. Why? you will have a 2 month interest penalty and if the balance is lower so is the penalty haha

Also once you are given the list price ask for 50% more off as this is what they will install at! Just means there is no commission in it for anyone.
They discount under a scheme called eco home....it's a total scam there is no such thing in reality,it's just a way to justify price drops to save commissions. At 50% off the quote no one gets any money the salesperson or the manager.

Hope this helps and I would love to answer any more questions
  • I have a Gold account. I made a lump sum payment and left the balance to be paid off after 13 months. I am tempted to pay the balance now. I am sure the Salesman was lying. Probably loose their commission if you pay off early.

    Their sales tactics are diabolical.
Their surveyors have no idea how to use a tape measure.
Their installers are not regular employees (Another lie from salesman). They are contractors paid a fixed rate to do a job. So of course if they can come in and do it fast and get out they are happy. So they bodge the install and scarper. Then somebody else is sent round who only gets paid if you sign to say happy with repairs. First lot of installers get the bill. The quality of the windows is appalling. I have a load of windows that you have to more or less swing on the handle to get them to close. Hell would freeze over before I used them again.

So to pay early or not that is the question. Would love to know if somebody has and what happened.
