Since 2000 Land Registry has been required to enter the price paid (or value) on the register. This is explained in more detail via the following links
Practice Guide 7 - Entry of price paid or value entry on the register
Price Paid Data FAQs
There are exclusions as others have mentioned but a straightforward sale from X to Y and for £Z should appear as an entry on the land register for 2009. If the ownership has not changed since that sale then the register should reveal a price paid entry - Dan-Dan has already supplied the relevant links to our online services above.
If no such entry exists or you believe there has been an error you can report this online
NB - as caeler mentions it can take a few months for the price paid information to also appear on third party websites. The reason for this is that the data is only produced once a month and to cover the previous month's transactions. As a result a sale could be registered just after the cut off date for collating the data e.g. 20th/21st of the month and therefore not be added until much later.
It is also important to note that many sales take place and the owners have moved in before any application to register the change of ownership is received by the Land Registry. The date of sale may therefore differ from the date of registration by several weeks and this additional time should be factored in around the price paid data as well.“Official Company Representative

So is there actually nothing to really worry about if a house sale doesn't appear in the register? Mine has bothered me for a while, I have to be honest!0 -
Dukesey , 2011 was more than a few months ago....? shouldnt it be on there?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

There is nothing to worry about as if the data does not exist it would not be your error. And a sale in 2011 of a single residential property should appear.
The data supplied to third party websites is created using a separate process i.e. we enter the data into our system and then extract that data en bloc.
The price paid entry on the actual register is processed separately.
As a result there can be examples where the entry appears on the register but not on the third party websites.
If you or anyone else is concerned that it does not appear on those websites then use the link provided to report the error and it can be investigated and rectified as appropriate.“Official Company Representative

Ok. I was mostly concerned with mine as it doesn't appear on the land registry's own house price site either - probably really daft to worry about this sort of thing, but I'm a worrier and always will be!0
