Heating a big old House!
Options
My wife and I live in scotland, and currently pay a budget busting modest £60 per month for gas/electricity in our very small 1 bed semi.
Im trying to get an accurate budget together for a big property we are considering putting an offer in on. Its 3 bed, 3 reception, with a basement!! Its circa 1900 semi, stone built over 3 levels: Basement, ground floor and first floor with coombed ceiling.
Realisticaly could our gas/elec double to £120?
We will still work full time, the only real difference is we will be heating perhaps 2 of the bedrooms and 2 of the reception rooms. Until we start our family its unlikely we will have the house fully heated.

It's very difficult trying to compare one property with another, for a start, there is no mention of insulation in your post? A starting point you may want to consider is the EPC, which will estimate how much energy will be used by the "average" family. You could compare the EPC on your current property (if you have an EPC) to your own energy usage to see how you compare to the "average". From there you could infer how much energy you may use in your new property. You will have to make allowance for heating fewer rooms in the new property, so this is at best a rough and ready approach!0

Just the word Basement makes me think you will be paying a lot more than you expect. Can you ask the sellers how much their bills are?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
