Hi all, I don't normally frequent this forum but I have been getting a weird number coming up a few times on my home phone. The calls are silent and the number is 00000920251. I am loath to call it back not knowing what it is. Any ideas?

Dennis99, you are safe to try it, there is no such number so you will get a number unrecognised message.

I also had a call from this number asking to speak to someone else in the household.
I asked who was calling and what it was regarding. They said something along the lines of "its about something we have recently sent [person] in the post". They also said they had some relation to [person]'s bank.

They asked when it would be best to speak to [person], so I said 'in the evening' without thinking much of it. Then something strange happend. They called back immediately asking to speak to [person] again! I asked to take a message (indicating I wasn't [person]), however they hung up.

I 1471ed and the 00000920251 number was reeled back to me.

I suspect this may be a phone phishing attempt. I will notify [person]!

EDIT: FYI caller was female, english speaking (not foreign) and most definately in a call centre.

Why would anyone call any number back that they don't know?

I only call back numbers I recognize.

It's probable the number was spoofed to get around people having anonymous caller reject, could be corrupt CLID or could have been using VoIP with no regular CLID set but maybe a number they set up as an exstention number or other such number.

My one VoIP account sends out similar numbers as CLID, others I can program with my our genuine numbers, previously I could spoof any number, used to phone friends using their own number as ID or someone else they knew or the number for a take-away etc etc.

I'd just forget about it. Remember Caller Display is only a guide and not to be relied upon.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
