Non paying buyer query

I have a non paying buyer and can see from her recent feedback that sellers have left her a few false positives saying that she didn't pay and made all kind of excuses etc. She has emailed me saying that she is having trouble with the internet and Paypal and instructing me to cancel the auction so I can get my fees back and she will leave me good feedback!

I want to ignore her email and open an unpaid item case against her but my worry is that because she does this regularly she may have a stike against her already and so may pay for my item (it was only a few pounds) to avoid being struck off and then leave me a neg. I've got 100% positive feedback of over 500, would you risk it?

    Yes risk it.

Open the NPB, which you can now do after 2 days, wait 4 days and close it.

Block her from bidding on your listings in future.

when both parties agree to cancel is feedback still available to be given ? I'd always assumed the feedback option 'disappeared' in a cancelation situation .

If a mutual cancellation is made, then both parties can leave feedback.

If a NPB is filed and the buyer doesn't pay, then neither party can leave feedback.

    thanks .

can I ask a more general question - as a seller you have 2 options in feedback :
    Positive
    or
    Report this Buyer

what happens when you click Report this Buyer ? do you have to write what they did ? does it show on the buyer's feedback ?

Check what feedback they have left the sellers who have left false positives.

however, by not opening a NPB claim you're helping this buyer pull the same stunt on others. Had the other sellers filed a NPB, you probably wouldn't be in this situation.

Whatever you do, make sure you block them.

It is just a report mechanism, buyer doesn't know you have done it and ebay rarely do anything with the report.

OP, go for a full NPB, many time wasters like this will never leave feedback as it makes them look bad, just don't be tempted to leave any yourself.

  • Thanks for your replies, I've opened a NPB case. I looked at the feedback she has left for others and she does leaves negs (so they musn't have opened NPBs) and also she's left negs on 3 occasions describing items as dirty/damaged etc, with replies to the feedback from sellers saying that there was nothing wrong with the items when they were posted and she had happily accepted a refund from them!!

In view of this I think it's definitely the right option!

I think this part of your question answers itself - she is having problems with the internet, but yet is able to e-mail you?

More a case of bidding, and cannot afford to pay. When a buyer bids on an auction item, they are entering into a legally binding contract to pay for that - auction houses would not accept non payment.

Open an Unpaid Item case immediately, too many buyers are getting away with not paying, and we cannot be held to ransom for fear of negative feedback. I only do buy it now on ebay, with immediate payment required, and have to date had a completely hassle free year. Good luck!
  • I've opened a NPB case and she's emailed me today saying that you can only file a NPB case when the buyer doesn't contact the seller at all. She says as she has contacted me and explained her situation would I now just cancel the transaction and she will leave me good feedback even though she 'aint got the item'

Ignore her, some buyers shouldn't be using eBay without supervision. Do not respond, do nothing at all now and just close it at the first opportunity.
