The current landlord. When the property was sold your new landlord acquired all of the original landlord's obligations, and that included your deposit regardless as to who you physically paid it over to. Fully expect to get a total run-around until you finally give up0

Your current landlord is responsible for your deposit. Whether or not they have it is their problem to deal with.

Have you got any proof you paid a deposit 9 years ago?Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

If possible text/email to your landlady asking for your full deposit back.
Then sit down and write a letter to the landlady marked " Letter before action" post 2 copies from different post offices and keep proof of posting ( DO NOT SEND Recorded delivery as she might not sign!!)
Point out that you want the full deposit back within 14 days or you will take her to court to recover up to 3X the deposit as required BY LAW from April 2012 ( her ignorance of the law is NO EXCUSE )
Have a look on the shelter website or give them a call.
She is the landlady and she is responsible for the deposit as long as you have proof it was paid ?
Good Luck and do not give up0 -
Deposit protection rules came in in April 2007. If the deposit was taken before then it won't be covered by current rules, unless you have signed a new tenancy agreement since April 2012.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
