Paying in a cheque to my First Direct account using an HSBC cash machine

As the title of the thread says, really! Can I pay a cheque into my First Direct account through an HSBC cash machine. I know I can pay them in branch, but the HSBC branches don't exactly have 'customer-friendly' opening hours for those of us in full-time employment. *sigh*

As long as you use a First Direct paying-in slip and write your account number and sort code on the reverse of the cheque, then no problem.
I do it all the time.0 -

I do it too. I used an HSBC branch on a Saturday morning when there were only machines available, no counter staff. Also paid in cash via the machines too. Thought it had all the hallmarks of a disaster waiting to happen, but it was great.0

Ask First Direct for some postage paid envelopes & post the cheque.
You can order the envelopes online.

I really want to pay it in direct to the machine. Can I get a paying in envelope from the cash machine itself?0

I've never seen an HSBC cash machine which has paying-in facilities. If you can find one, sure.
You can definitely use the in-branch paying-in machines.urs sinserly,

The HSBC in-branch machines that I have use do not require an envelope just the cheque and a paying in slip.0

Same here, just swipe the door with your debit card and it opens up and gives you access to all the machines, statements, cheque deposit and change deposit. No paying in slips required, just need to put your card in first to activate the machine. Sometimes it says the cheque is the wrong way around or the payment slip can't be read, but after a few times it normally works and gives you a copy of the cheque for your records.
The only thing thats strange is that there's no machine for paying in notes.0 -
