I remember a former Alfa dealership telling me that my front tyres were close to the legal limit and probably needed replacing.
I asked the service manager to check again and he did and said they might do me for a while but would advise replacing them.
I then showed him the quik fit receipt for 2 front tyres no more than 2 hours old.
    'oh'

Have had the brake disc thing as well on a car a year old. Have had the brake pads thing with the Alfa dealer as well. On re-checking they found out that the 20% pad was 20% wear...
    They arent dealers anymore....

I also bought a car from Charles Hurst once....

If Charles Hurst were the last car sales company in Ireland I would get a ferry to Scotland to avoid using them.

Probably right but I'll take my chances, just thought others should be aware that other car dealers than Mr Hurst can try to pull a fast one.

Charles Hurst are owned by a national group, so escaping to Scotland may not work.;)

The late Mr Hurst was a real gentleman and if he were still around I am sure he would not be happy at the reputation the current owners are giving his family name.

They all do it unfortunately, Had to have my dashboard readout replaced by Renault, a known fault for which they still charged £100. Better than the £700+ they charged before Watchdog pulled them on it thou :o

Whilst having this done they gave my car a "free" check over. When paying for the dash they informed me they have suspension rods and brake drums on order for my car and to bring it back next week to get these fitted, parts would be £400 and labour cost calculated when work is done :rotfl:

20 minutes with my own mechanic tightened a suspension rod and told me my drums where perfect as he had replaced them on his previous MOT service.

So not just Charles Hurst, Donnelly and Taggart are shady operators (thanks D.A.) too as I suppose most other car dealers are. A good local honest car mechanic is worth his weight in gold :)

Stevey, I have to disagree, Donnelly & Taggart are not 'shady operators' as you have stated. I've been a customer of Donnelly and Taggart Toyota for 11 years. I can honestly say I have always been very happy with them, and that's why I always return to them. They've always provided excellent service. They service my car every year, I wouldn't be bothered going to an independent mechanic due to previous bad experience, I go to Donnelly & Taggart Toyota as I trust them.

I've never been into Donnelly & Taggart's Renault showroom, maybe Renault customer service isn't great?

I've always had the free health check on my cars, and never had any need to get additional work done, as a result of this.

For the known fault your car had, was it under warranty? Or was there an extended warranty from Renault for the fault? You'd think Renault would have had one for a known fault.

There's a certain Vauxhall dealers up the road from there that is a right dump. But I won't go into details as it is a public forum ;)

I'm only really going by my personnal experience, I'm glad someone has had a better experience with them. The thing that annoyed me was paying for a known fault and them giving the car a check over without permission and ordering parts (which were not needed) again without asking me first ? Not really the way to run a business IMHO :o

Don't get me started on that Certain Vauxhall dealer :rotfl:I had 3 years of fun with them  I'm in total agreement with your opinion of them. That's why I stick with my local independant mechanic, if you get a good one your on a pigs back :)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Just noticed an interesting case listed for hearing in the High Court, Bankruptcy Division on 19 September.

I agree. I wouldn't touch them if they were the only car dealers in Europe.

Saying that, one of the main Ford dealers (not Charles Hurst) told us that our previous car required work to the tune of £1300 to get it thought the MOT. Took it to a small garage who replaced the pads and disks and put it through the MOT for us. Sailed through with a total bill of £200.

You can issue a winding up order if a company owes you money and you can prove it and also prove that the company cant pay.
Its a sure fire way of making them pay you!

Could just be a business wanting its money. Either way its not good PR.

Is it someone petitioning for them to be wound up, or them doing the petitioning of someone else?
