Last year I bought a car from CH and at that time I bought their service plan for 4 years for £13.00/month. I took the car for service and in around 40 minutes they brought the car back to me. I asked what they did in this service and I was told they changed the oil and filter. They also told me the breakpad is 90% worn out and the discs corroded and require immediate replacement costing around £250.00. But they don’t have any in stock and bring it back in couple of days. I told them this is the 4th year and I was expecting a full service not just oil change. After a lot of haggle they agreed to do the full service and took the car back and returned it in 30 minutes. They asked me to sign a document which tells that they warned me about the break pad and discs and I am driving it back home on my own risk.
Since the car only had run 20K miles I was wondering why it need break pad and disc replacement. The next day I took the car to two different garages and both said the pad and discs are OK and do not require replacement. Y’day I took the car for MOT and passed without any issues.
If any of you are advised to replace the pad and discs then take a second opinion.

If they were only talking about one brake pad and disc, it would make sense if a brake had been binding. You'd have known with the squeaking this would have made. Shouldn't happen in such a new car.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
Corrosion/rust on brake discs can be caused thru lack of use i.e. very low miles0

Sounds like they were taking you for a mug- glad you went and got a second opinion, don't use these clowns again.0

Certain big dealers have a reputation for pork pies. One car of mine had discs needing changed within 500 miles. I didn't bother and forgot about it. The next year, no note was made with regards to pads/discs and it was then a further 2 years until they actually needed changed.Always overestimating...0

They all do it unfortunately, Had to have my dashboard readout replaced by Renault, a known fault for which they still charged £100. Better than the £700+ they charged before Watchdog pulled them on it thou
Whilst having this done they gave my car a "free" check over. When paying for the dash they informed me they have suspension rods and brake drums on order for my car and to bring it back next week to get these fitted, parts would be £400 and labour cost calculated when work is done :rotfl:
20 minutes with my own mechanic tightened a suspension rod and told me my drums where perfect as he had replaced them on his previous MOT service.
So not just Charles Hurst, Donnelly and Taggart are shady operators (thanks D.A.) too as I suppose most other car dealers are. A good local honest car mechanic is worth his weight in goldI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Not entirely sure it's wise to label a company as being crooks on a public forum stevey.0

Probably right but I'll take my chances, just thought others should be aware that other car dealers than Mr Hurst can try to pull a fast one.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
I believe there have been a few news stories about Charles Hurst in the past. A google search would probably confirm that.
Personally I wouldn't go near them. We had problems with accident repairs to a car a long time ago and vowed never to grace their doorstep again.Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

If Charles Hurst were the last car sales company in Ireland I would get a ferry to Scotland to avoid using them.0
