Who has to prove PPI?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I went into my local of branch of HSBC and they told me I had PPI on my 2 previous mortgages.

I sent a letter off to HSBC complaining and they came back to me saying I didn't have any PPI, although their systems had said that I did.

I can't find any relevant documentation to support my case.

In this instance, is it for me to prove the PPI, or for the bank to prove that I didn't ever have any?

Thanks in advance.

It's up to you to prove it.
If they have no records left, you have to rely on yours, which you don't have.

On what grounds were you 'complaining'? Nothing wrong with the vast amount of monthly mortgage protection.
  • Hi there,

Wrote to Santander cards re: a Debenhams card ( which I still have )
taken out in store because of a 10% deal at the time, in 2001 asking if I had PPI. They replied to say it had been applied to my account in November 2001 to November 2011. I did not know I had this so I believe I was missold this. How do I prove this?

Sorry if this has been asked before!

Complaining as I wasn't aware I had any as I would never have taken any out - therefore mis-sold.

Was fully expecting them to say there wasn't any on it, so was shocked when they said the account had been flagged to say it had it on it.

I am sure Andy will be thrilled you responded to his post made over 2 years ago. Sadly, Andy has not visited the board in nearly 2 years. So, wont see your response
