Land locally - how to find out plans for it

Hi,
There is a piece of land around the corner from me that was once garages, which were knocked down some time ago. The council have recently fenced the land off with big metel green fences.
Is there I way I can try and find out what this piece of land is going to be used for - I *assume* it is owned by the council.
I looked on the land registry website to try and find out if I could download the deeds etc but it seems very hard to find this out when it isn't a residential property - I had to give a house number and postcode.
Any help would be appreciated.

do a search for your local council's allocation plan - this outlines how all land is categorised in their area be it residential, commercial, green space, development etc and often includes much more information about plans for the area.0

Sometimes councils sell of bits of land. I know Bradford council for example list their property for sale via http://www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/the_environment/land_and_premises/properties/index
Might be worth seeing if yours are getting rid of it0 -

Our online service can be used to identify a piece of land as well as a residential property
Take a look at our online FAQ which explains which part of our services to use to firstly locate and identify the land and then to view available information online.
NB - you can use the address of a nearby property to locate the land on an aerial view
Important to note that not all Council owned land will be registered and not every search will reveal information online. If no information is available online the land may still be registered. Our online FAQs explain how to check this and obtain information by post as appropriate.
From a planning aspect the Council is the place to ask but if they don't own it then the Land Registry search may still be worthwhile.“Official Company Representative
