student loan penalty
I'm between jobs at the moment. The student loans company have requested to know how I'm supporting myself. I've had this before when i was made redundant from my last job.
It was not a very nice letter, threatening £150 penalty and additional costs if they don't get it in 28 days. They say if they need to obtain information about me via other means. They have said they may add such costs or expenses to my loan amount.
What really takes the biscuit is they have includded a self addressed envelope but it has an 'affix stamp here' box. If I drop the envelope into the post box will it reach their P.O.Box address without a stamp?

So sorry, thought this was money saving expert.0 -
50p compared to £150 charges added to your loan interest, I know what I would be doing."All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

... That is all I was asking.
The SLC are using scaremongering as a tactic, as do many other debt/loans companies. I am going to reply as I have replied before and paid for stamps before.
However seeing as I have no choice whether I am to reply to them it would be nice if I didn't have to pay 50p for the privilege (each time).0 -

The RM will probably request a penalty payment in the same way as they would do if someone sent you a letter without a stamp on it.
It is then anyone's guess whether the loan company would pay the charge to pick-up the letters.
Do you really want to risk a £150 fine because the loan company decide not to pay a fee to collect the letter you couldn't be bothered to pay 50p for a stamp for?0 -

To be honest I find that remark offensive.
I work hard, I owe the SLC over £25,000, i earn (or will be earning 14k pa), I am struggling to make ends meet at the moment without a job.
I don't think its too much to ask that when the SLC threaten me and demand a response that they include a freepost address or a self addressed envelope.0 -

If that is all it takes to offend you then you really need to grow up and join the real world - you're not a little schoolkid any more.I work hard, I owe the SLC over £25,000, i earn (or will be earning 14k pa), I am struggling to make ends meet at the moment without a job.

It was your choice to go to university and your choice to take a loan. You have had the benefit of not paying back that money due to not earning enough, so it is only right that the SLC make sure that you are not taking advantage.
What is 50p to one individual compared to the X times 50p that it would cost SLC if they had to pay for a stamp for every return letter they sent. They've done you a favour by including an envelope for you to use - so that's a pound or so you've saved yourself.0
