I have a Dell xps M1530 bought in 2008 and keep getting the following message:

windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status 0xc0000225. I dont want to reformat the hard drive.
Not sure if you want the discusssion to go this way but have you tried to repair the installation? You'll need to state the Windows version for specific advice.

Someone else with your problem here has 'solved' it.

Look here to use the Command Prompt in the Vista Windows Recovery Environment.

Use Ubuntu's 'Try Ubuntu' option to get access to your data and then run a factory restore.

I haven't used MS Office for years as it's overpriced for what 99% of users get out of it.

I suggest you get a decent pc sorted out and then download Libre Office for free. It does everything MS Office does and all you need to do is adjust the Save As defaults to MS 2007.

a backup and a factory restore would probably cure it in 10 minutes, and it will run a lot better as a result.

If you have no data to backup, it doesn't stop you reinstalling windows, either by pressing F8, then advanced, or booting from the vista dvd
