informal tender buying advice

We've seen a property we really like that is for sale by "informal tender" with a deadline date in 3 weeks.
We would want to get a structural survey performed before we buy the house as it's quite old, but I can't work out when this should be done. ie.
Do we pay for the survey and have it done before we put in our offer?
Or is it as the "normal" buying process where you'd do it after your offer has been accepted?

Anybody know?

  • Treat this procedure the same as if you were just making a verbal offer which would either be accepted or not. If you are fortunate enough to win with the best offer, go ahead and have your survey done at that point.

    Bear in mind that if the survey shows up too many adverse points you are at liberty to revise your offer.

    It could be a huge waste of money to have a survey done before your offer is accepted.
