Gas safety certificate help please!

We are renting a house at the moment (a six month tenancy after we sold our old house and couldn't find another to buy at the time). Our tenancy is due to end shortly but we are really unhappy with the agency that we rent it through.
The house has no gas safety certificate for the gas fire in the lounge (although it has for the gas boiler and hob). We have asked for this to be done on numerous occasions and are being fobbed off by the agency who say that the landlord won't have it done.
The house also had no smoke alarms for the first 2 months, eventually they supplied a pack of 2 cheap alarms which we have fitted.
What is the legal position on this? I was under the impression that smoke alarms and certificates were a legal requirement. My husband is talking about taking them to court. Help to clarify this is much appreciated!!!

You say the house has a CP12? The gas fire would have been looked at at the same time, the certificate covers the safety of all gas items in the property. I have a unsafe gas fire in one of my properties, I simply had it capped off.0

No law that they have to fit smoke alarms.0

But all gas appliances have to either be tested or made inoperable.
That is the law0 -
The landlord is required to have a Gas certificate for the property.
If he won't get one, you can not take him to court for not having one. What I would do is get one done, and then minus the cost from the rent due.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
You chose to live in a smoke alarm free house for 2 months ?
you could have sorted that for £8 and sent land lord the receiptNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

As above, smoke alarms not complulsory, you are lucky to have been given any at all.
Are you sure gas certificate does not cover everything in the property?
If LL will not do things, the agent cannot force them to - agent works for LL not the other way around. If you have issues, write to the LL, via the address for serving notices on your tenancy agreement.#
TBH, if your tenancy is coming to an end soon, why go through the hassle of trying to take LL to court? Move out, move on ...0 -
So are you saying that they have tested the hob and the boiler, but not the gas fire?
Is the fire not listed on the certificate?
It would not of cost any more to test the fire, so the engineer must of missed it. If you have c/h that might be why he missed it.
Call up the engineer, his/her number will be on the certificate, tell them they missed the gas fire that was fitted when they did there test and you think it might be making you sleepy. They should come back and tested it.
Who,s at fault, gasman or landlord. Who signed the paper work?
Who's name is on it?0
