but dont you think that they will just transfer all the stuff from the shops into the warehouses for the use of index catolagues?

The opinion is that the Barclay brothers are 'streamlining' so that Littlewoods is a more attractive proposition when they decide to sell. I dont think littlewoods will go under, it depends which section she works in!

New Look and Primark have made joint bid for what remains of the high street stores, with the Littlewoods name set to disappear.

The boss said on radio 4 the other day that they had not made a profit in 18 of their 20 trading years. No wonder they look dilapidated!
Hmm and they are not going to make a profit if they don't start doing some of those stores up to entice you in, the one in leicester is dark and dingy and its a big store as well. Some of the stuff isn't half bad. The grannys are in there because they are always having half- price sales.

ETA: Just read the article about New Look, that's all we need yet more New Look stores - cheap & nasty clothing but the same price as Dorothy Perkins. Unfortunately not the same quality.

In Aberdeen there were rumours that Asda were set to buy the littlewoods store, no idea if it will actually happen though.

I don't know if this is a nationwide thing re Index but my local store in Huddersfield is having a clearance sale. My mum popped in yesterday to get a cordless phone. Examples of the bargains:

    Various cordless phone sets - 9.99 - 29.99
    Hi Fi with 3CD changer - £20
Indoor roman style fountain - £5
    various different digital cameras - £40 - 100
    Bratz dolls £10
    Kids mountain bike £25

I can't remember all the different things but there were some nice random bits that are suitable for gifts etc (vases, cosmetic sets, hair straighteners etc) all for under a fiver. My mum ran into my two aunts and every ten seconds you would hear "oh my god come and look at this"(loud shouting) from one of them.

There was quite a lot of stuff there - the items in the catalogue weren't marked down but all the bargains were on the shop floor. It may be worth checking and seeing what you can pick up.

There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.
  • I know someone who works at one of the Index distribution centres and, yes, there is going to be some clearance stock.

To confirm the above post, it looks like the reduced stock is being 'floor stacked'.

I haven't got any specific details but it looks like there will be bargains to be had nationwide.

My daughter works at Littlewoods, some of her friends in Index have been given jobs in Littlewoods, but not all. They are all shocked by this announcement, although they were told last Sunday before it was announced on TV, which doesn't always happen. Her boss phoned on Monday to reassure her that she still had a job, but he said discussions were in place with Primark.
There may be a sale, but Argos may take the stock as well. Index would always give you the Argos price if it was cheaper, and you asked, but there are some things that Index did, that Argos don't do.
