126 Index shops to Close Down: CLEARANCE???

I have found that identical products which I have bought in the past have been marginally cheaper at Index than at Argos. The 2 shops are opposite each other where I live so I always comared prices. In addition to this, Index always had the products which I wanted whilst Argos sometimes didn't. I put this down to my obscure shopping habits however, no doubt Argos stock stuff which doesn't interest me.0

There's quite a lot of overlap - same type of product but different make - but some things you can only get at one. I just got an extra long Audio cable for a fiver from Index last week but Argos didn't have them. it was nice to have the choice locally but shopping at Index was always less efficient , slower with minimal staff - the same person dealing with enquiries and returns as taking orders -
I don't get that at Argos!0 -
Shame I used to like them0

Is it just me or is Littlewoods/Index rather skint these days? The Littlewoods in Leicester has not been refitted since the mid-eighties judging by the signs outside. The computers are ancient, nasty black screen with white writing (dos era) and huge till thingie but tiny screen. The index bit of the store is better but only because it has been refitted or opened in the nineties. It is really depressing going into the store it just has this really tired feel about it.0

I only use the littlewoods part of the store as a shortcut to the shopping centre, but it's a bit like an obstacle course, with the grannies and their shopping trolleys. The Index bit of the shop was a dump, things were just piled up everywhere on the floor.0 -
Same problem with High Wycombe branch.
Walking through the Littlewoods part is like slipping into a comma, battling past those 90s clothes for OAPs and getting to the Index section isn't much better. It does remind me of being 8 again and standing in an old Argos from the 80s.0 -
The boss said on radio 4 the other day that they had not made a profit in 18 of their 20 trading years. No wonder they look dilapidated!0

The opinion is that the Barclay brothers are 'streamlining' so that Littlewoods is a more attractive proposition when they decide to sell. I dont think littlewoods will go under, it depends which section she works in!0
