IPA proposal

We have just received a response from the OR following our request for a breakdown of the IPA proposal.
The letter does not give us the breakdown but only says that the amount we had put down for clothing, telephone and petrol was above the national figures of whats normally allowed. They would like documentary evidence of why our figures are above these national figures.
The questions we need answering are:
1. Why haven't we received a proper breakdown having asked for this?
2. Where are these national statistics found?
3. What documentary evidence do they need? They have had bank statements already.
4. Is it true there's a higher fuel allowance for people living in rural areas who have to travel to places of work?
Comments from anyone would be greatly appreciated, especially the "debt doctor".

Do you have an SOA on here? I just wondered what you had put down for the ones you say they are now saying are over the national figures. Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0

Hi,
Tell your examiner that you will not sign anything until you receive a full breakdown of their IPA calculation.
Then wait for it to arrive.

Thanks debt doctor.
Where will we find these national figures for what's allowed?
What do you suggest for documentary evidence other than bank statements?0 -
They use their family expenditure survey which I generally ignore. For fuel you could start to keep the receipts, or similar with telephone bills.
Remember they want this more than you do, so let them do the work and give a clear " I am not signing" till I get a full breakdown so I can consider it.
You have no reason to run around in a panic!

remember, those figures are only a guide, some people will need less, some more, don't let the OR try and make you accept the average, if you can reasonably show you need more than that.0

I noticed the really low suggestion for water rates and wondered if I am being way overcharged by my water company as I pay lots more than the suggested figures in debtdoctors link, but looking at other people's SOAs on here I am paying much the same as others. I think some of the figures on that link then are outdated or unreasonable."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

I agree so many things have gone up in price, petrol, food, energy and as Pippa says water etc surely if they are working on this thats out of date they should make some allowance0

I agree regarding the water. I'm not on a water meter therefore it doesn't matter if I am one single person living here or a family of 10, my water bill is still £462.57 per year.
I also agree costs for everything have shot up in the past few months so it would be difficult if not impossible to live on those allowances. Put one unexpected expenditure into the mix and you wouldn' t be able to cope.

You are all correct.
That's why I use the Common Financial Statement (CFS) figures which are more realistic, approved by the banks and by the IS in DROs!
