Metal ring from washing machine door?

Hi,

Earlier my washing machine chewed up some clothes into the rubber door seal, and the metal wire with spring fall out whilst I tried to fix it:

I've tried to kinda re-fit it (just took the rubber door seal out, put that into it, then put the rubber back) but the seal in general now seems really loose and I'm worried that it's going to leak...

A couple of questions:

1) Is there anything else I can try to fix it before calling someone out for a potentially very expensive replacement?
2) Is there anyway to stop the machine (it's a Beko) should it actually start leaking? Is it even safe to try? :(

Thanks

Door seals can either be very simple or a complete nightmare to fit. If you can't do it yourself, you're going to have to get someone in to refit it. Just looking at your photo it doesn't look right. I wouldn't use it until it's done as a machine full of water flooding your kitchen is not what you want!

ha having recently done this to change the seal its a two man job.
I simply could not get the spring round the seal by myself I had to call my glamorous assistant (a teen) and the extra pair of hands did it.
it was a beko though not the same as yours.

Maybe have a look on YouTube for some hints ... they'll be plenty of demos of how to change the seal.

A white goods / washer man would prob charge around £30 to put the retaining clip back on...15 min job.

Thanks all :) I've done the YouTube thing and it looks okay (though not perfect) - I think I'm going to try it at least once and then call someone out if there's signs of any leaking at all

Remember to smear plenty of neat washing up liquid around the area of the seal that you will have to fit over the metal lip on the machine to make it easier to fit
