Barclay Card/Credit Cards

in Credit cards
Hi there,
I've been really riled as since graduating in 2009 I have not been able to get a credit card. It is probably a blessing in disguise but now that I live on my own and rent I would quite like some form of back-up plus the ability to budget using a credit card if that makes sense.
To cute a long story short I applied to Barclays last week and shockingly received a provisional acceptance in the post, requesting I send in two forms of ID.
What I would like to know are what of my chances of this going through with the ID, which I sent in today as usually I get a decline on such things.
I earn £41k a year, no real debt, one HP agreement due to end next May 2014 but disappointingly two settled defaults (silly uni days). I am on the electoral roll, but that is at my old address. I moved out from my parents on 1st March.
If I am accepted what would you ascertain my limit to be?

Barclays need to verify your identity at your current address as you are not yet on the electoral role, so don't be shocked by your provisional acceptance. This is normal in cases like yours.
Provided you can prove your identity and have supporting evidence of where you are now living, you should be accepted.
It is difficult to estimate what your starting credit limit might be. Although your salary is decent , past problems would suggest a prudent limit.
Let us know what that limit is when you hear from them as it will help others in similar circumstances. Good luck. You may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)0 -

Thanks wiseshark, I went on to my credit report with Experian and could see they had not updated my electoral roll, which I have definitely been added to as I sorted this out earlier in the year. Will it be a problem that it is not showing on the credit report? Eeek!0 -

It takes time for the updated roll to be published and then for this information to be disseminated to the CRAs. Contact your council to find out when they will update it.
Personally, I wouldn't apply until all 3 CRAs show the updated electoral roll. You may still get credit but it will probably get referred and could mean you get a lower limit0
