nhs starting salary question
Comments
-
The starting on bottom point is normal for the NHS, however it is worth stating your expectations that your current salary is met. Increments are annual and on band 2 are quite small steps so it will take a long time to reach your £15000 if you start at the bottom. Ask to start at £15279. There has been a 1% pay award this year and the band 2 pay scale is:Band 214,153
14,508
14,864

By the time you take income tax into consideration a 2K drop is really not that much.
Working for the NHS - benefits far outweigh this, the pension, the flexi time the sick pay the death in service etc.
I'd just get on with it and take the job - you're REALLY lucky to get in the NHS.0 -
Yes, unfortunately you have to start at the bottom of a pay band unless you are already within the NHS and then you would start on the same payband level you are currently at if the job is the same/same band.
Your incremental date is likely to be a year from your start date0 -
In some cases the recruiting manager does have the discretion to award up one increment - however in my Trusts' case it does require approval from Director level and evidence that the individual meets the KSF outline.
Automatic increment increases were reviewed in the last pay circular - the one that awarded the 1%.
Progression through the increments will be conditional upon individuals demonstrating that they have the requisite knowledge and skills/competencies for their role and that they have demonstrated the required level of performance and delivery during the review period. However I can imagine this will take a while for the Trusts to work this through/0 -
you will proberly start off at band 2 bottom level which is like band 1 top. you will move up the table each year for around 7 or 8 levels I think.
Also look at the holidays you will get, more than the private sector and paid bank holidays and 12 weeks full sickness pay which is what is on your rota, then a further 12 weeks basic full pay then 6 months half pay.
If this works out more take the job.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

Thats not correct anymore as automatic increments have been changed - see my previous post.
Band 2 is the range from £14,294-£17,425 which starts the same as Band 1, which is £14,294-£15,013.0 -

What I have said is correct then. Bottom of band 2 is a starter at £14-294
Top of band 1 is £14-294All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
No - top of band 1 is £15,013 as per the Afc pay circular 2/20130
