nhs starting salary question

Hi,
I'm currently working for a private firm and paid £15,000 per annum. (this is in the middle of nhs band 2).
I've been offered a job working for the nhs. no salary was discussed although they know how much i am currently on because it was on the application form.
The paperwork that has arrived for my new nhs job says my salary will be band 2 and based on previous nhs experience ( of which i have none).
I'm now worried i'll have to start at the bottom of band 2 and take a £1000 pay cut.
I only took the job on the basis i would get a pay rise or at least stay where i was in terms of salary.
Can anyone tell me what i will start on? and should i expect to keep my current salary?
Thank you

The NHS Trusts I've worked for have always started staff with no prior NHS experience at the bottom of the pay band.
Sorry
Maybe someone will post a different experience, but certainly in my corner of the NHS that's what happens.

This is my experience as well. Moving between roles in the NHS is different, but coming in with no prior experience would put you at the bottom of the scale.0 -
why dont you phone up and ask them???
do they have a HR dept.
or is this not the right thing to docredit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
Not sure what to do now, i would not have taken the job if i thought i would have to take a pay cut

How quickly does salary go up? is it yearly do you go up by one of the steps in the band?
As a professional coming in with x amount of managerial experience, it doesn't seem right that i could get a job that pays £16k elswhere but only £14k in the nhs.0 -

You move up a step on the pay band once a year on your anniversary of joining the NHS (or your start date if moving between jobs/bands).
Sorry OP I feel like I'm giving you nothing but bad news

Thanks for replying.
Are the NHS actually giving out pay increases at the moment? or is it frozen because of the economy?0 -
If its any consolation, there are a few good things about the NHS even if the pay isn't. Holidays and sick pay to name but two.0

Your starting salary is at the discretion of the recruiting manager as this money comes out of their budget, ring them and say what you have said in this thread as tactfully as possible and see what they say.
It is only those on £21,000 per annum or above who have had their salary frozen.
Good Luck!
